Venture capital firms including Yuanta Investment, DA Value Investment and Tab Angel Partners invested a combined total of more than 10 billion won in AMCG, a company specialising in cardiac diagnostic equipment based on magnetocardiography.

Jung Young-kwan, managing director at Yuanta Investment, who led the round, said the review drew on the firm’s experience investing in heart valve disease treatment technology, and pointed to AMCG’s system enabling prediction of ischemia and sudden cardiac death — conditions that existing tests struggle to diagnose. He also cited the three-dimensional, non-invasive real-time examination, free of the side effects of radiation or contrast agents.

Park Jin-oh, vice president at DA Value, described AMCG as a game changer in cardiac diagnosis.

Magnetocardiography dates to 1963 in the United States. AMCG’s aim is to replace the staged sequence of electrocardiography, exercise stress testing, echocardiography, CT and angiography with a single examination.

A team led by Dr. Yong-Ho Lee at the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science spent some two decades developing a magnetocardiography system capable of early diagnosis of arrhythmia and myocardial ischemia. KRISS transferred the diagnostic system technology, including the core sensor, for commercialisation.
