Heart disease is the leading cause of death worldwide and the second leading cause in Korea. According to Statistics Korea, deaths from heart disease rose from 46.9 per 100,000 people in 2010 to 63 in 2020.

The difficulty is diagnosis. Angina, one of the most common cardiac conditions, is usually first detected by electrocardiogram — a test whose sensitivity is only 28%, leaving considerable room for misdiagnosis. Computed tomography reaches about 70%.

AMCG’s magnetocardiography system diagnoses cardiac disease by measuring the faint magnetic fields emitted by the heart. The examination is non-invasive and uses neither radiation nor contrast agents.

The technology is built on quantum magnetic field sensors developed over some two decades at the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science, which AMCG licensed and is bringing to market.
