On 21 March 2023, AMCG signed a joint research agreement on MCG (magnetocardiography) scanning with Gachon University Gil Hospital and the Armed Forces Capital Hospital.

The three institutions will carry out joint research projects and share facilities to validate the clinical effectiveness of cardiac diagnosis using MCG scanning.

MCG scanning diagnoses cardiac disease by measuring the faint biomagnetic fields produced by the heartbeat. It requires no contrast agents and no radiation, and is designed for early detection of ischemic myocardial disease and chemotherapy-induced cardiomyopathy. It is also used to predict sudden cardiac death and to follow the course of cardiac disease.

Magnetocardiography was first developed in the United States in 1963. In Korea, a team led by Dr. Yong-Ho Lee at the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS) developed the core SQUID sensor technology and completed a 64-channel magnetocardiography system.

Gil Hospital director Kim Woo-kyung said the hospital would take part in validating a new MCG system that addresses the limits of current cardiac diagnosis, and Armed Forces Capital Hospital director Seok Woong said the hospital would join the clinical research for early cardiac diagnosis of both service members and the wider public.
